چکیده
Using FT-ESR coupled with pulse radiolysis the kinetics of hydrogen abstraction from 2-propanol by hydrogen and deuterium radicals were studied in aqueous solution. The rate constants were determined from the effective spin–spin relaxation times of the free induction decay of hydrogen or deuterium ESR lines by variation of the 2-propanol Ž . Ž . concentration. The rate constants k and k for H D q2-propanol-h and k and k for H D q2-propanol-d HH DH 8 HD DD 7 show a kinetic isotope effect with k rk s8.2 and k rk s5.3. A secondary kinetic isotope effect is observed in the HH HD DH DD Ž . Ž . hydrogen deuterium abstraction from the C–H C–D bond by H or D radicals. These results are compared with ab initio quantum chemical data. q 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

Reactions of HOCO radicals through hydrogen-atom hopping utilizing clathrate hydrates as an observational matrix.
The carboxyl (HOCO) radical, which is an important species in atmospheric chemistry and combustion, is an intermediate in the reaction: CO + OH → CO2 + H and serves as a hydrogen donor to the reaction partners. The cis-HOCO radical, one of the ground-state HOCO radicals, is supposed to be decomposed into CO2 and the hydrogen atom by a tunneling effect. In order to prove the hypothesis, we perfo...

متن کاملRadical intermediates in chloroform reactions over triphenylphosphine-protected Au nanoparticles.
Reactions of chloroform over triphenylphosphine-protected Au nanoparticles have been studied using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and a spin trapping technique. Two competing reactions, abstraction of hydrogen and halogen atoms, were identified. The hydrogen abstraction reaction showed an inverse kinetic isotope effect. Treatment of nanoparticles with oxidizing or reducing r...
متن کاملA surprisingly complex aqueous chemistry of the simplest amino acid. A pulse radiolysis and theoretical study on H/D kinetic isotope effects in the reaction of glycine anions with hydroxyl radicals.
A pulse radiolysis study was carried out of the reaction rate constants and kinetic isotope effects of hydroxyl-radical-induced H/D abstraction from the most-simple alpha-amino acid glycine in its anionic form in water. The rate constants and yields of three predominantly formed radical products, glycyl (NH2-*CH-CO2-), aminomethyl (NH2-*CH2), and aminyl (*NH-CH2-CO2-) radicals, as well as of th...

Kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) provide a powerful tool to interrogate transition states of both enzymic and non-enzymic reactions, provided that one can measure the intrinsic KIE on the chemical step of interest, that is, the isotope effect undiminished by other isotope-insensitive steps that may contribute to the overall rate of reaction. For small molecules reacting in solution the KIE measur...
